A coalition of Tunisian activists and labor unions has announced plans to launch an overland aid mission to Gaza on June 14, according to The New Arab. The initiative, named the “Convoy of Resilience,” will carry food and medical supplies through Libya and Egypt.
“We are organizing this convoy to show that we refuse to be passive witnesses to genocide,” said Wael Naouar, spokesperson for the Joint Coordination for Palestine, the group spearheading the mission.
The convoy is set to align with broader international solidarity efforts, as concern mounts over the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in Gaza. Since the collapse of the ceasefire, humanitarian aid deliveries have been halted for nearly two months, leaving many in Gaza on the brink of starvation.
Adding to the controversy, U.S. President Donald Trump made headlines on Thursday by proposing to “take” Gaza and transform it into a “freedom zone,” reviving earlier rhetoric about turning the besieged enclave into a Mediterranean Riviera.
Tunisia has remained one of the most outspoken supporters of the Palestinian cause in North Africa, with frequent protests outside the U.S. embassy in Tunis and widespread public opposition to Western backing of Israel’s military actions.
But activists say symbolic gestures are no longer enough.
“After hundreds of vigils and demonstrations, it is time for action,” said Samir Cheffi of the Tunisian General Labour Union. “This is a moral obligation. The threat of displacement and expansionism looms over the entire Arab region.”
