Tunisia’s main trade union, the UGTT, vowed to defend itself after supporters of President Kais Saied accused it of corruption and tried to enter its headquarters, reports AFP. UGTT chief Noureddine Taboubi rejected the claims and urged legal action instead of smear campaigns. Rights groups warn the incident reflects eroding freedoms since Saied seized sweeping powers in 2021. The UGTT won the 2015 Nobel Peace Prize for aiding Tunisia’s democratic transition.
