Turkey has deported an Egyptian citizen accused of Muslim Brotherhood membership, Middle East Eye reported on Friday. Mohamed Abdelhafiz, a legal Turkish resident, was detained at Istanbul Airport upon returning from Africa and barred from re-entry.The Muslim Brotherhood, designated a terrorist group by Egypt, faced mass arrests after the 2013 coup, with many members fleeing to Turkey. While Ankara typically avoids deportations to countries with rights risks, Abdelhafiz was sent to a third country, marking a rare move against a Brotherhood affiliate.
