Turkey, Egypt near landmark defense pact with jet program

Türkiye and Egypt are finalizing a landmark defense pact that will see Cairo join Ankara’s Kaan fighter jet program, The Arab Weekly reported. The strategic cooperation, aimed at boosting defense self-sufficiency, could shift the Middle East's military balance, long dominated by Israel. The dialogue, which includes technology transfer and training, accelerated after President el-Sissi’s 2024 Ankara visit. Both nations are proceeding openly but cautiously to manage relations with Washington and the EU.
