U.S. approves potential $4.67 billion missile sale to Egypt

The U.S. State Department has approved a potential $4.67 billion sale of a National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) to Egypt, the Pentagon said on Thursday. The package includes four AN/MPQ-64 radars, hundreds of missiles, and guidance units, along with U.S. technical support. NASAMS, co-developed with Norway, counters aircraft, drones, and cruise missiles. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the deal would bolster Egypt, a "major non-NATO ally," reinforcing regional stability. Congress must still approve the sale.
