U.S. Congress introduces bill to designate Polisario Front a 'foreign terrorist organization'

U.S. Republican Congressman Joe Wilson, alongside Democratic Congressman Jimmy Panetta, has introduced a bill entitled "Polisario Front Terrorism Designation Act" that aims to have the Polisario Front designated under U.S. law as a foreign terrorist organization, due to it being seen to have increasing ties to Iran, Hezbollah and Russia. In a tweet U.S Rep. Wilson said  "The Polisario is a Marxist militia backed by Iran, Hezbollah and Russia providing Iran a strategic outpost in Africa and destabilizing the Kingdom of Morocco, a U.S. ally for 248 years." The bill,

H.R.4119 - sets out to "provide for the imposition of sanctions with respect to the Polisario Front, and for other purposes." Wilson's comments follow a reaffirmation from the US administration of its support for Morocco's sovereignty. Secretary of State Marco Rubio recently described Morocco’s autonomy proposal as the only viable solution to the dispute during a meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita.
