The USS Mount Whitney, the U.S. Sixth Fleet’s command ship, has docked in Nouakchott, underscoring Washington’s commitment to maritime security in West Africa, according to naval statement. The visit included joint discussions on interoperability and maritime domain awareness with Mauritanian officials. U.S. diplomats highlighted ongoing support for Mauritania’s defense capacity, including officer training and special forces cooperation. The port call follows recent U.S. naval visits to Libya and Cape Verde.
