Sudan is facing the world’s worst humanitarian catastrophe, British Foreign Secretary David Lammy said on Monday, urging global action, AFP reports. Speaking at a forum in Marrakesh hosted by the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, Lammy highlighted the war between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, which has killed tens of thousands and displaced over 13 million people since April 2023.

The conflict has devastated infrastructure, triggered famine, and pushed a quarter of the population from their homes. Lammy criticized the international community’s “ambivalence” and lack of attention to the crisis, pledging to use his role to raise awareness.

His remarks come amid growing frustration among humanitarian agencies about the global response to Sudan, where aid access remains limited. As regional diplomacy falters, Lammy’s comments signal renewed calls for Western engagement in resolving one of the world’s most severe but underreported emergencies.
