The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has issued an urgent travel advisory for Tunisia amid rising security threats, Travel and Tour World reports citing an official statement. British travellers are urged to avoid areas near the Algerian and Libyan borders, including the Chaambi Mountains, Mounts Salloum, Sammamma, and Mghila, due to heightened risks of terrorism and military operations.
The FCDO warns against all travel to within 20 kilometers of the Algeria border (except certain crossings) and 75 kilometers of Libya. El Borma and Dhehiba are also considered unsafe. Despite the alert, popular tourist destinations like Tunis, Hammamet, and Sousse remain unaffected, and airports such as Tunis-Carthage and Enfidha-Hammamet continue to operate normally.
The advisory also highlights risks of public protests—especially in response to developments in Gaza—which can escalate without warning. British nationals are advised to remain vigilant, avoid demonstrations, and follow local authorities’ guidance while in Tunisia. The travel warning follows a broader review of regional security developments.
