Egyptian-UK activist on hunger strike, now ill in prison
AFP reports that British Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah has become sick after spending more than 50 days on hunger
The British government has pledged up to $6 million to create programs that will empower and upskill migrants to remain at home in Tunisia, suggesting it will be less likely that they make the perilous journeys to Europe. The UK also announced up to $1 million in funding for the International Organisation for Migration’s Assisted Voluntary Returns & Reintegration (AVRR) Programme, to support migrants who have no legal right to be in Tunisia and to return and reintegrate them to their home country.
