UN agency warns Sudan nearing 10 million internally displaced people

The number of internally displaced people in Sudan due to ongoing conflict is on the brink of surpassing 10 million, according to the United Nations migration agency on Friday, marking the world's largest displacement crisis.

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported that 9.9 million individuals have been internally displaced across Sudan this week. Before the conflict began, 2.8 million people were already internally displaced, the agency said.

In total, approximately 12 million people have been forced to abandon their homes, with over 2 million seeking refuge in neighboring countries such as Egypt and Chad.
