UN chief says 'crimes against humanity' may have been committed in Sudan

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the ongoing indiscriminate attacks on civilians in Sudan might amount to "war crimes and crimes against humanity."

Speaking on the anniversary of the conflict between rival generals, Guterres highlighted increased violence in El-Fasher, Darfur—a region with a history of ethnic violence, constituting a quarter of Sudan's population.

El-Fasher remains the last state capital not controlled by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which are currently clashing with Sudan's army. The city also serves as a crucial hub for humanitarian aid.
