On World Refugee Day, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) representative to Egypt and the Arab League, Hanan Hamdan, praised Egypt's approach to hosting refugees, citing it as a potential model for other nations, according to Egypt Today. Egypt has notably avoided establishing official refugee camps, instead integrating refugees into society. This strategy, supported by cooperation between the UNHCR and various Egyptian ministries and institutions, aims to benefit both refugees and their host communities.

Ms. Hamdan emphasized the need for increased international funding to support refugees and the communities that host them, especially given the ongoing Sudanese and Syrian crises. A new response plan is set to launch on June 24th, focusing on these challenges and the broader needs of refugees in Egypt. The UNHCR continues to highlight the global funding shortfall in addressing humanitarian crises.
