The U.N. Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) said on Friday its Advisory Committee finalized options to resolve disputes over Libya’s electoral framework, paving the way for talks with stakeholders. Formed in February, the committee aimed to unblock obstacles delaying long-awaited elections. UNSMIL said the proposals could help secure a political deal for polls and reunify state institutions, key to ending Libya’s division. Elections planned for December 2021 collapsed over candidate disputes, prolonging a decade of conflict since the 2011 uprising. Libya remains split between rival eastern and western administrations.
