UN-backed human rights investigators on Friday called for an "independent and impartial force" to protect civilians in Sudan's ongoing war, accusing both sides of war crimes, including murder, mutilation, and torture. In their first report, the fact-finding team warned that foreign governments arming and financing the warring factions could be complicit. The report also accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and their allies of crimes against humanity, including rape, sexual slavery, and persecution.
