The United Nations expressed growing concern on Friday regarding escalating tensions in al-Fashir, located in Sudan's North Darfur region. Reports indicate that the Rapid Support Forces are surrounding the city, raising fears of a potential imminent attack, according to the UN's spokesperson.
The spokesperson stated that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' envoy is actively engaging with all involved parties to defuse tensions in the area.
Since April 14, when the Rapid Support Forces initiated their advance towards El Fasher, at least 43 individuals, including women and children, have lost their lives in clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), the spokesperson added.
