The United Nations urged South Sudanese leaders to commit to democratic reforms as election delays continue, with the latest postponement pushing elections to December 2026. UN envoy Nicholas Haysom criticized South Sudan's leadership for political paralysis, stalling the peace process and democratic transition. Speaking to the UN Security Council, Haysom warned that "the clock is ticking" on South Sudan’s fourth election delay, reflecting deep public frustration and fatigue over unfulfilled commitments to peace and reform.
