A recent study has raised doubts about Egypt's capacity to implement the reforms needed to overcome decades of economic challenges. The policy brief, released on Tuesday by the Washington-based Peterson Institute for International Economics, suggests that Cairo is unlikely to shift away from its "well-rehearsed playbook," which includes returning to fixed exchange rates, relying on geopolitical rents, and allowing the military to maintain a significant role in the economy.
