Niger flood death toll rises to 273 as historic mosque is also destroyed

According to local media reporting, heavy rains impacting Niger since June have now killed 273 and affected more than 700,000; the country has also lost a historic mosque which collapsed due to the torrential downpours. Made from a mixture of earth and straw called banco, the mosque was Niger’s second-most visited after the UNESCO-listed Agadez mosque, according to Niger’s ministry of touri
